About the artist

All of us are seekers, and some of us are storytellers.  But some of us talk better with our hands than with our mouths.  Art often speaks for me when I am weary and have simply run out of words.  It creates a space between stimulus and response where a dialogue can begin, connecting Created with Creator. One or the other of us starts the banter and then things really get crazy when clay, wax, paint and canvas enter the discussion.  The whole conversation is “art”.  In my opinion, people acquire art because it stirs them to want to get in on the fun.  Art can also be a window where people can get inside the artist, and also gain insight into themselves.

I began creating likenesses at a very early age, discovering an ability to transfer what appeared in my mind’s eye through my hands and onto the clay.  I choose subjects that capture my imagination, creating images that resonate with my soul.  Working the clay is a refined form of prayer for me and touching the Divine.  Through sculpture, I join the work of my Creator, shaping my truth, through my experiences, with my hands.  Art has a touch of eternity in it.

“Besides purely figurative sculpture, I enjoy integrating people with wildlife.  So, through some of my art, I try to draw the viewer into the piece, showing people as ‘a part of nature’, not ‘apart from nature.”

“One of the challenges is infusing a personality into my subject.  Getting that, ‘life’s essence’ just right consumes my thoughts and dreams.

Every creator painfully experiences the chasm between his inner
vision and its ultimate expression.  ~ Isaac Bashevis Singer

Traveling frequently, I am often immersed in sensory experiences that fuel my creative engine.  My style is eclectic, from representational to impressionist to abstract, because to me, art presumes no creative limitations.  Artistically, I approach each work as a vague concept.  Then, in researching the nuances of the natural or cultural context, a more coherent image begins to coalesce in my mind’s eye.
