Breaking Camp Early

Hand-finished traditional liver patina

“Some folks feel a special connection with certain animals. For me, that kinship is with the Great Bear. In its nonchalant swagger, I see freedom personified. In this piece, the primacy of the Grizzly in its domain is indisputable. The visitor, perceived as a threat, has become persona non grata. But, leave it to youth to demonstrate that life mustn’t be taken too seriously.!”

Context is important. One privilege of creating art is the freedom to express context as part of the subject. That was surely the case in this piece.
The diorama and interplay among subjects create drama.  The opportunistic wolves are conducting a risk assessment, while the raven, balanced on top an old
burnt out snag, isn’t taking sides but patiently awaits the spoils!
